dear elder / brother / sister,
الحمد لله I am overjoyed to find so many of my brothers and sisters all over the globe learning Arabic and the Qur’an, I pray to ALLAH (SWT) that He accepts everyone who tries to learn, understand and implement in their lives His Glorious Book and grant them the full reward of perfecting it and forgive the shortcomings,اللهم آمين .
I am from Sri Lanka and please don’t forget my parents, my family and my 4 children in your precious Dua’s as well. (Leena – 15, Umar – 10, Ammaar – 7, Zaid – 1). جزاك الله خيرا.
Please find attached the Arabic vocabulary sheet (2 excel versions of the same file as some have trouble opening the first). Please let me know if you have any questions.
The sheet may look a bit overwhelming at the beginning but it is structured in a way where an Arabic grammar student will find it very easy to get at the desired words very fast.
(If you are not sure of a word’s grammatical position you can do a simple ‘excel search’ across the workbook, either in English or in Arabic as well).
If you are a beginner, the study of Arabic Grammar for about 3 – 6 months will إِن شاء الله enable you to make perfect sense of this sheet. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you might have with regards to this work and please include in your Dua’s.
A few tips: The blue tabs are verbs (فِعل), green are nouns (اِسم) and red is particles (حَرف).
The tabs are broken down by grammatical verticals and the sheets are sorted by the Arabic alphabet (verbs by the root letters).
Clicking on the ‘Tab Index’ Arabic text or a particular letter will navigate you to the particular tab, and clicking on the top left cell’s text of a tab will navigate you back to the ‘Tab Index’ (for ease of navigation within the worksheet).
The final sheet of the workbook has all the references which have been utilized in this work for your benefit.
Please let me know if you find any mistakes in this work so that I can correct myself. Also please go ahead and share with the entire Ummah.
May ALLAH (SWT) grant you Barakah in your studies and life in this world and in the hereafter.
This covers the vocabulary of the entire Qur’an. Please make Du’a for me to be able to keep working on this project and improving itبإذنِ الله .
I am also currently working on another project in sync with Usthaad Nouman’s course ‘Qur’an – A deeper look’ to document the beautiful structure of each Surah of the Qur’an and to identify the subject matter flow within passages of a Surah and amongst Surahs (draft attached). The color coded and indented passages and sub-passages within Surahs and across show how amazingly symmetric the structure of the Qur’an is to form logical arguments in order to appeal to the human mind as well as heart (intellectual as well as spiritual). Please make Du’a that I am able to work this project to completion as well and share with everyone بِعَون الله.
If you need another source in addition to ‘Arabic with Husna’ (www.bayyinah.tv) to accelerate your learning of the most beautiful language, please check out the 3 Madina books (Authored by Shaykh Dr. V. Abdur Rahim – Senior Lecturer Madina University) been taught by Usthad Asif Meherali who is based off Canada, which is a free course. The entire course is on video and سُبحان الله he is an awesome teacher for beginners in Arabic, الحمد لله. He makes learning Arabic so easy, interesting and enjoyable. I hope you benefit from this course immensely. You can find everything you need here (videos, books, handouts etc.): www.lqtoronto.com
Once إن شاء الله you are fairly comfortable with Arabic Grammar you can use this sheet together with Usthad Nouman’s ‘Qur’an cover to cover’ series, ‘Qur’an – A deeper look’ series as well as ‘Stories from the Qur’an’ (www.bayyinah.tv) to go through the entire Qur’an and taste the sweetness of the speech of our Master (SWT). إن شاء الله this will also make you strong in learning the vocabulary of the Qur’an, as much of it is repeated. The feeling and awe at this point is simply priceless, as not only does this expose us to the message of the Qur’an, but also enables us to taste the miracle of the Qur’an, and سُبحان الله what a miracle our Master (SWT) revealed to the pinnacle of His creation صلّى الله عليه وسلّم . May ALLAH (SWT) grant all of us the opportunity to understand the message of the Qur’an as well as experience the ultimate miracle. اللهم آمِين.
Please keep ALLAH (SWT)’s promise in your mind while studying the Qur’an: ولقد يسّرنا القُرآنَ لِلذِّكرِ فهل مِن مُدّكِرٍ (We have most definitely made the Qur’an easy for remembrance so is there anyone who will remember). May ALLAH (SWT) make it easy for all of us.
I would like to request the following from you:
1. To send me any feedback you may have or mistakes you find in the Arabic vocabulary compilation.
2. Let me know if you have any means to spread the word of this work any further (i.e. contacts, forums, discussion threads, study circles, email groups, websites etc.) so that the entire Ummah can benefit from it إن شاء الله and we all share in the أَجر, الحمد لله.
May I also recommend that you study the Seerah (life of our beloved Messenger صلّى الله عليه وسلّم), in conjunction with the Qur’an, which is where we learn how to implement the Qur’an in our lives as well as in society, as the Seerah is the backdrop of the Qur’an and the two cannot be separated. The below link will give you a beautiful series that I found very enlightening which has been completed by sheikh Yasir Qadhi: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLC89682017B43845D
Please keep this beautiful Hadith of our beloved Messenger صلّى الله عليه وسلّم in mind when you study his Seerah إن شاء الله: وَدِدتُ لَو أنِّي أَلقى إخوانِي
where he صلّى الله عليه وسلّم said something to the effect of “how I would have loved to meet my brethren”, and when the Sahabahرضِي لله عَنهم asked him if they were not his brethren, he clarified them as his companions and mentioned his brethren were the ones who will come after him and believe in the message he was sent with, without having seen him and would have sacrificed all their wealth and family to see him once صلّى الله عليه وسلّم. May ALLAH (SWT) include us in this high rank. اللهم آمِين.
Again, جزاك الله خيرا and may ALLAH (SWT) unite us all, guide us and keep us on the straight path till the day we meet Him (SWT) and grant us the highest ranks of Jannah where we get to see Him (SWT) all the time. May ALLAH (SWT) make our best day the day we meet Him and from today onwards every day better than the previous, اللهم آمِين. إن شاء الله a good way to achieve this is to learn the Arabic language and get closer and closer to the book of ALLAH (SWT) on a daily basis, as this is a lifelong journey, الحمد لله. I hope and pray that the next generation would have gotten back this lost treasure and two Muslims meeting from two ends of the world will be able to communicate in the language in which ALLAH (SWT) revealed His final message as a living miracle to humanity. اللهم آمِين.
A beautiful Du’a: اللهم اجعَلنا مِن أَهلِ القُرآن (Oh ALLAH! Make us from the people of the Qur’an), اللهم آمِين.

PS: The Qur’anic Arabic vocabulary sheet is best viewed on a Microsoft Windows based computer with Microsoft Excel 2010 or newer. Also note that it is not compatible with Microsoft Excel 2007.
In case you don’t have Microsoft Excel installed you can use this tool to view the worksheet: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=10
I hope you have heard about the detailed lessons on Surah Baqarah that were started this Ramadhan by Usthad Nouman, else you can find all the recordings here for free: www.bayyinah.org
إن شاء الله let’s make use of this amazing opportunity to build our relationship with the Qur’an and get ourselves on a trajectory to enable us to make the Qur’an our companion till the day we meet our Master (SWT).
I ask ALLAH (SWT) to bring the Ummah back to the Qur’an and spread the Light far and wide, اللهم آمين. PS: This series has now been moved into Bayyinah TV under ‘Qur’an a deeper look’.
Please let me know which country you are from, and إن شاء الله I will send you an updated version as and when enough progress has been made in updating these works, بإذنِ الله.
بارك الله فيكم,
Your brother in Islam,
